Glimpses of the Guest Room

This exhibition is a collaborative creation by six UK-based artists, bringing together textiles, sculptures, installations and fashion performance to collectively explore the physical and psychological dimensions of the “guest room.”
Glimpses of the Guest Room turn its narrative to a particular space within the domestic—the guest room, which contains a heterotopic quality.
Though it belongs to the private realm of the home, the guest room carries a distinct sense of openness, designed for the presence of the Other. It is a carefully arranged miniature stage, where the existence of self and guest briefly overlaps.
As a space intended for a temporary stay, the guest room is often thoughtfully arranged to offer warmth and comfort. Yet this curated atmosphere subtly reveals a sense of performance, giving a quiet tension of distance.
Each object in the room stands waiting, open to the possibility of temporary meaning—an invitation to new conversations and encounters. The guest room becomes a delicate heterotopia, suspended between reality and imagination, intimacy and detachment, fleeting hospitality and emotional dislocation.
